I joined the Marine Corps in 1994, graduating from VMI [Virginia Military Institute]. Went to The Basic School [TBS] and was designated as an 0203, ground Intel officer. Military Intelligence Officer Basic Course with the Army, as well as IOC [infantry officer's course]. Went from there to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, where I was a scout sniper platoon commander. Did a deployment with them on the 11th MEU [Marine Expeditionary Unit] and subsequently came back and was transitioned to 1st Recon Company where I deployed with BLT [battalion landing team] I in the 13th MEU. After that, I went to be one of the Marine officer instructors at Virginia Military Institute, and then came to 2nd Recon Battalion where I was Charlie Company commander, Bravo Company commander, the Det OIC [officer in charge] for a detachment that went to Yemen for a deployment and then came to be the operations officer at the battalion after a brief tour as Three Alpha.
